Androgynous Model Alice Dellal Announced as Face of Boy Chanel Line
Model and punk musician, Alice Dellal, has finally confirmed suspicions and been announced as the face of the Boy Chanel Bag's advertising campaign.
Chanel's head designer, Karl Lagerfeld, has enlisted the androgynous young woman to prove to people women don't have to dress in frills and pastels to look feminine and get noticed.
It's all about adding that touch of strength to female fashon.
Alice Dellal
Standing at just 5'5- that's a good three inches below the average minimum height for a model- some were initially skeptical of Lagerfeld's latest muse.
But the 'Boy-Bag' is all about non-conformity, Lagerfeld has stated, and Dellal's punk/rock inspired fashion sense, half-shaven head and carefree attitude certainly fits the bill.
Her part-Brazilian roots and hardcore drumming skills in the band Thrush Metal already cuts an intriguing figure, leaving her far from unnoticed prior to Lagerfeld's 'crush'.
Since starting her career as a model she has already worked with established labels such as Mango and high-class lingerie brand Agent Provocateur, not bad for an average height 24-year old.
Boy Chanel Bag
The Boy Bag advertising campaign saw the Chanel head designer himself stepping into the shoes of lead photographer.
It shows Dellal in a layered and frilled number, the colour and texture like an ice-cream meets chiffon explosion. The cold, grey sheen of the Boy Chanel Bag sets a heavy contrast in comparison. It's a visual contradiction, something the head designer would no doubt have planned.
Lagerfeld's main aim has always been about mixing up the idea of what's 'fashionable'. The bag sets out to give a sense of masculine empowerment and edge to the modern woman without taking away her sex appeal.
It's all about pushing the boundaries of women's fashion.
Testing the Limits of Fashion
Lagerfeld has been infamous for his knack of not so subtly teasing the usual limits of fashions since his career began.
Most notable amongst these his catwalk of strippers on the Milan Fashion Week runway, a choice that caused even the Vogue editor in chief, Anna Wintour, to make a swift exit.
His previous outspoken views on the use of fur in fashion have also caused him a deal of controversy, culminating in the spokesperson for animal rights group PETA branding him a "fashion dinosaur."
Tale of One Man & the Many Muses
Lagerfeld's latest crush on Alice Dellal, however, is certainly not a first.
A long line of socialite maidens and successful actresses precede the model, amongst them Atonement star Keira Knightly, candid pop singer Lily Allen and the legendary Jerry Hall to name but a few. The common denominator between them unveiling his attraction to strong enterprising women. After all, they do effectively represent his designs.
Lagerfeld brought Chanel back from the brink with his daringly courageous creations aimed at a new generation of consumers. The creations had the ability to make or break Chanel's long-earned respect in the industry.
March 2012
The outcome of Alice Dellal and Karl Lagerfeld's advertising collaboration will be unleashed in March 2012. As with the rest of Chanel's ventures, the Boy Chanel Bag makes for a much anticipated line.
